Article Submission Service Glitch – Writers Beware

Posted on February 16, 2009 by marniep under Article SEO

Many people use article submission services to save time when submitting articles to article directories. And that’s ok. But there is one thing you’ll want to be aware of. It’s nothing malicious, but it is incredibly ineffective for you as the writer who’s working hard to churn out quality articles and then paying someone to submit them for you.

We’ve noticed a pattern among articles submitted by article submission sites to IdeaMarketers.com . Every article in our system is allowed to have a URL associated with it. We link your primary keyword phrase to this URL. We tell people to go there for more information when they read your article. This URL SHOULD link to your site for more information about the article subject. This is your chance to get people to your site to sign up for your list and perhaps one day purchase from you.

The problem with some of the article submission services is that they don’t fill in this blank with your site’s URL. They fill it in with a URL on THEIR site which contains an exact duplicate of the article being submitted.  This means someone who has just read your article is going to be linked off to read it again on another site! They don’t want this. They want MORE information about you.

If you use an article submission service, I’d recommend logging into IdeaMarketers, go to the Article/PR Admin menu, click on Edit/View and edit your articles. Make sure the custom resource box links to a URL on your site for more information about the article’s subject. Better yet, ask your article submission service if they will fill in this blank with a URL on your site.

I’ve posted a 2nd part to this post here.

Some parts of Internet marketing should be handled personally. Leaving it up to someone else is not always a good idea. It may save time, but to what avail? Thanks for this info!

Submitting articles does not take a lot of brain power. It takes time. After less than desireable results from two different submissions services, I hired a stay-at-home mom who was more than happy to do things exactly the way I wanted them done. Responsible high school or college students might also work well for you.

My website that offers a submission service is setup to configure each article directory added bythe members. Each member has his/her own configured article directories for submission. I have not set mine for IdeaMarketers yet but when I do it will include the link as your article suggest. Thanks for the great post.. James

Hi Marnie Thanks for that info! Not only was the URL wrong, but also the category. I'll make a point of comming here each time I write an article now. Thanks again Wendy

anyway; here's the point; it's about link value, by linking from the article on your site to the original, google will know which one is the original and which one is the copy; the one on your site point being; you don't have enough readers to deserve the original! the link value in the google algo is more important here then those few readers you have!. all you're trying to do is to get the copy on your site to have a higher value, in other words; the so called advice you're giving is not in the interest of your publishers!

That was an informative article! I've noticed that while using mass distribution article services, some directories do a good job as described in this article, but there are many that take it from the first publisher and link back to them. On the other hand, they just use your non-html author biography. So, I think one good practice will be to use your complete homepage URL at the end of the non-html author biography. Sometimes, it's hyperlinked at least to your homepage.

Thank you so much for this information. Personally, after I work hard on writing a valuable article, I devote some time and submit it myself. This is how I keep in touch with article directories and staying on top of things.

I was afraid of that from both the article submission softwares/ services and the automated social bookmarking software/services. That's why I prefer to do it by hand even if it means hours of drudgery. For example: some social bookmarking sites use space deliminators for keyword phrases, others use comma deliminators, technorati requires a plus sign to connect the words, Propeller requires an underscore Using a service blasts them all out with comma deliminators and hopes for the best???
